March 2010 Family of the Month--The Nakamura Family

The Nakamura family—Yuki, Tammy, Natalia, Nico and mother in law Nana, have lived in Colleyville for the past ten years. In addition to the two-legged members, they have two other family members, Mario and Luigi, a 15 year old black lab and a Yorky-poo puppy.

Yuki and Tammy met in Galveston. Yuki was finishing his last year of residency in plastic surgery. Tammy worked as the Director of Catering at the San Luis hotel as well as working for other hotels and developers in Galveston. After two years of dating, they married in 1987. Later, when visiting the Dallas area, they decided to move to DeSoto. Ten years ago, the great school system and the friendly people helped them make the decision to pick up their family and move to Colleyville.

Yuki has his own practice in Arlington “Accent on You Cosmetic Surgery and Medi Spa”, which he opened 14 years ago, specializing in cosmetic surgery. In his spare time (of which he has very little), he enjoys golf, snowboarding and scuba diving. His two passions are cooking and playing the piano. He is a former board member of Arlington Boys and Girls Club, is a past President of Dallas Society of Plastic Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeions and is involved in GRACE with Tammy.

Tammy is heavily involved in community affairs. She is in charge of the Grapevine HS football game program, volunteers extensively for GRACE and the Boys and Girls Club, and will soon be Vice-President of the GHS PTSA (again). She also volunteers with the Cancer research foundation of North Texas, the Colleyville Woman's Club and many more organizations. She owned and operated car washes in the Desoto area for 14 years, which she sold 3 years ago, and still keeps her business hand involved to varying degrees in several businesses.

Natalia, their oldest, is a junior at Oklahoma. She is majoring in fashion photography, and is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She is the sorority choreographer, and works over the summer for the American Cheerleading Association, where she leads summer camps and cheerleading competitions in the fall around Texas and Oklahoma. She is also a talented singer who steps in for various bands when needed. She enjoys snowboarding and music. She graduated from Grapevine HS in 1987.

Nico is a junior at Grapevine, and plays on the football team. He is also involved in Student Council, Leadership, Student Standing Strong, and is currently ranked 19th in his class. His favorite subject is math, in fact, any kind of math. He enjoys snowboarding, with the rest of his family. Paintballing and wakeboarding are some of his other passions. He plans to attend University of Texas to further his studies.

Nana, Yuki’s mom, has lived with them for 22 years. She is now in her mid 70’s and skied with the family on their trips up until 3 years ago! She enjoys spending time with her friends and her cooking group, which rotates from house to house.

The Nakamura family is a great example of the way of life in Colleyville. They love Colleyville for its central location, ease of access to DFW airport, safe environment, and great school system. They have lots of great friends here, and believe it is a great community to raise a family. They haven’t regretted the decision to move to Colleyville for a single minute and wish they moved here sooner.
