McPherson Park "Splash Pad" is open!!!

For many Texan families, finding ways to beat the summer heat can become somewhat of a chore. North Texas families will be glad to know that this summer, there is now a new place to go.

On Friday, May 28th, the City of Colleyville opened its long awaited “Slash Pad” water park for area children at McPherson Park on McDonwell School Road. The Splash Pad was designed with an Amazon theme, and construction was directed by Greg Firebaugh and Tyler Firebaugh of Dean Construction. It comes complete with a giant frog, mushrooms, a windmill, and flower-shaped structures that shoot, dump, and spray water in all directions. The splash pad was coated with a thin later of “MicroTop”, which holds the color for a longer period of time than regular concrete. Despite its intricate design and abundance of moving parts, total construction time of the Splash Pad lasted only nine months.

Addison O'Neal and father Brian push the water switch for the first time

Attendees of the grand opening witnessed a ribbon cutting ceremony complete with Colleyville Mayor David Kelly, various Colleyville council members, and the Colleyville Parks & Recreation department. Addison O’Neal, daughter of Brian & Trina O’Neal, earned the opportunity to be the first person to activate the water switch for the park by grabbing a lucky Easter egg at the Colleyville Easter Egg Hunt in March. Citizens who attended the opening were also treated with cold popsicles, lemonade, and a fun-for-all-ages bubble stand.

The Splash Pad will be open during regular park hours from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
